The internet has become part of our daily lives, with millions of people across the UK using it for shopping, banking, social media and much more.
But this increase in online activity also means cyber-crime is on the rise.
Here are a several common methods that can be used to hack your personal information
Computer viruses
These programs can steal your information and spread from one device to another (PCs, tablets and smartphones) via messages or emails.
IT phone scams
A fraudster claiming to be from your IT provider will phone you and try to get your passwords or other information or install malicious software on your devices.
Fake websites
By creating a website that looks genuine, such as a bank, scammers can steal passwords and codes.
Phishing
This is an email scam where a message looks genuine but encourages you to click on a link to a fake website, which collects your information.
SMS scams
Text messages claiming to be from a legitimate firm will try to persuade you to follow a link to a fake website.
Follow these steps to stay safe online

Never open attachments or click on links if you have any concerns about whether the email or text message is genuine.

Check for the padlock icon on a secure website.

Use strong passwords. They should include a mix of letters, numbers and special characters and should be different for each site you use.

Do not write your passwords down.

Keep your browsers and devices up to date.

Keep your antivirus, firewall, and any other security software up to date, too.
We have the power to protect your pension
The Trustee can refuse to settle transfers out of the Fund if we suspect scam activity. If you had any concerns, we would refer you to MoneyHelper, which offers free guidance on all money matters, including pensions.
