Understanding your investment options and fund performance
The Trustee continues to closely monitor the range of investment choices available to you within the Fund. Over the year to the end of August 2025, most members have seen positive investment returns. Watch this short video from JP Crowley, one of our investment advisers at Mercer, to learn more.
People further from retirement invested in one of the available SmartPath options are most likely to have experienced these positive returns, as their investments tend to include higher-risk assets like shares (equities), which have generally performed well over the past year. For members closer to retirement, the focus typically shifts to more cautious investments, such as bonds. These tend to be more stable but have seen modest returns over the past year, partly due to concerns about rising inflation.
Despite ups and downs in the markets earlier this year, the overall trajectory of returns has been positive. It’s important to remember that fluctuations in investment values are normal and short-term market movements shouldn’t lead to hasty decisions about your retirement savings.
