Shaping your future – plan today, be ready for tomorrow

Retirement planning can feel a bit overwhelming and with busy lives, something for another day, but a good place to start is understanding what level of income you might need in retirement – and whether you’re on track for the retirement you want.

Are you aged 40 or over?

Explore Destination Retirement

Questions like ‘when can I afford to stop working?’, ‘how much income will I have?’, and ‘will my savings last?’ are not always easy to answer.

This is why the Trustee has arranged access for you to Destination Retirement*, a digital planning tool that helps take the guesswork out of planning for life after work.

The service is free to use. You only pay if you choose to activate your plan and receive personal ongoing professional support.

Who is it for?

Destination Retirement is designed for members aged 40 and over, who can benefit most from detailed retirement planning. If you’re under 40, the most important things are to make sure that you’re contributing as much as you can afford and that your Individual Account is invested well. Explore the tools and resources on the Contributions and Investment pages of the Fund website.

What can you do?

You can build your own personalised retirement plan, explore different scenarios, and see your options clearly – all at no cost to you. Destination Retirement’s digital tool brings together all your pensions and savings to give you a complete picture of your retirement finances.

Update your plan any time

Your life – and your plans – can change. Whether you are thinking about retiring earlier, working part-time, or adjusting your lifestyle goals, you can update your plan whenever you like.

Access professional support

While the tool is self-service, help is always available. UK-based retirement specialists can support you by phone or webchat, and you can get additional help if you decide you would like support to put your plan into action. Please be aware that you will be required to pay for this extra help.

A handy guide to check if you’re on track

Minimum

Covers your basic needs with a little left over for some leisure / social activities

Moderate

More financial security and flexibility, including a holiday abroad / longer holidays and regular meals out and social activities

Comfortable

Greater financial freedom and more choice, with extra leisure / social activities and some room for luxuries

These figures have increased since last year due to rising costs. They also don’t include mortgage payments, rent or social care costs, so your personal target may need to be higher. Comparing these benchmarks against your own retirement plans can help you sense-check whether you may need to:

Save more

Consider increasing your monthly pension contribution, especially if you’re not currently getting the maximum Company contribution.

Retire later

The earlier you retire, the longer your savings will need to last.

Adjust your expected lifestyle

Review your priorities (such as holidays) and adapt to your personal circumstances and expected retirement income.
