Introducing your new investment education hub

Whether you're just starting out, mid-career, or approaching retirement, understanding how your pension savings are invested – and whether they’re working as hard as they could be – is one of the most important things you can do for your future.

Your new investment education resources are here!

That's why we've launched a new suite of investment education materials, all available now on the Fund website. From short explainer videos to an interactive investment journey navigator and fund performance comparison tool, everything has been designed to help you feel more informed, more empowered, and more confident about the decisions that will shape your retirement.

Everything in one place

The Investment page on the Fund website is your go-to for information on investing your pension savings in the Fund, and as well as the new resources mentioned below, there’s also FAQs available covering the questions we’re asked most often (updated periodically). We've also taken the opportunity to refresh our key guides – the Investment Guide has been updated to reflect the recent changes to DC investments in the Fund. You'll find the latest versions in the ‘View our documents’ section on the website.

Where to start – try the investment journey navigator

Not sure where to begin? The investment journey navigator is the perfect starting point. Answer a few quick questions about where you are on your pension investment journey and it will guide you to the resources most relevant to you.

New explainer videos – something for everyone

These six new, short videos cover the full range of investment topics, from the basics right through to managing your pension day-to-day. Watch them in any order, or let the navigator point you to the ones most relevant to you:

How a DC Pension Scheme Works – a clear introduction to how your Individual Account builds up and why your investment choices matter.

Your Investment Options Explained – a guide to the funds available and how to think about choosing between them.

Mercer SmartPath – how the Fund's default investment strategy works and what it means for your pension savings.

Making your Investment Choices – helpful information on how to decide which approach is right for you.

Investing for the Long Term – explaining how to keep track of how your investments are doing over time.

Managing your Investments using OneView – a step-by-step walkthrough of how to review and update your investment choices.

What’s next: If you're unsure whether you're in Self Select (called “Freestyle” on OneView) or SmartPath (called “Lifestyle” on OneView), log into OneView and click "View investments" to check your current investment strategy. Then continue to read on…

Members invested in Mercer SmartPath: understanding your investments

If you're invested in one of the SmartPath strategies, you’ve chosen to let our investment experts make investment decisions on your behalf. These strategies benefit from having a robust governance structure in place with regular monitoring of the investment performance. However, they won’t be right for everyone, so you should still make sure you’re happy with the way your Individual Account is invested and how it will be moved as you approach retirement. Watch the relevant explainer videos above to help you with this.

Members invested in Self Select funds

If you’ve chosen your own investments for your Individual Account, you’ll need to take a more active role in monitoring your investment performance to make sure you remain on track for the retirement you want. To help you with this, we’ve launched a new investment fund performance comparison tool.

This gives you an at-a-glance view of how the Self Select investment funds available through the Fund are performing. Whether you want to compare funds side by side, explore how they've done over time, or simply understand what each one is trying to achieve, the tool puts all that information in one place.

The tool is available now on the Fund website – head over there now to get started!

What the tool shows you

For each Self Select fund, you can view:

Performance data for the latest quarter, year, and three-year period.

Each fund's investment objective – what it's aiming to achieve – and its level of risk (Low, Medium, or High).

The fund's indicative Total Expense Ratio (TER¹) – a measure of the total cost of investing in the fund.

A link to the full fund factsheet on the Mobius Life platform for more detailed information.

You can filter by fund category – choosing from all funds, risk-profiled funds, or specialist funds – and select one or more specific funds to compare them directly. Leave the selection empty to view all funds in a category at once.

¹TER: indicative Total Expense Ratio – the measure of the total cost of investing in a fund, which may include various fees and other expenses and may vary from time to time.

How to use the tool

Using the tool is straightforward:

  • Go to the Investment section on the Fund website.
  • Under "Fund category", choose whether you want to view all funds, risk-profiled funds, or specialist funds.
  • Use the "Select funds" dropdown to pick one or more specific funds to compare, or leave it empty to see all funds in your chosen category. Use the "Clear selection" button to reset your selections and choose again.
  • Toggle between performance periods – latest quarter, one year, or three years – using the buttons above the chart.
  • Click on any fund in the chart (or on a fund tile) to display its detailed information panel, including its investment aim, TER and risk rating. Hovering over a chart bar shows the fund's current performance in a text box.
  • Click "View factsheet" on any fund for the full fund description and further details.

Important: remember each fund has a different level of risk, and past performance is not necessarily a guide to future performance.
